hey wow cool guess what's back
The Dream Stone you get from Oak allows you to advance the plot by going to sleep and dreaming about Lotus Land Story's extra stage location. You normally wouldn't have any idea to do this, but Aichiya actually tells you to do this in his FAQ.
The trainers are about as threatening as you'd imagine.
At least there's something acceptable here.
Remember when I said the game fades to black every time it's implied you're explaining the game's plot to somebody, and then they repeat the plot back to you? I hope you'll be just as sick of this as I was while playing by the time I'm done here. I guess I should mention that this is actually Mugetsu and Gengetsu due to the fact we're in some random dream world. Mugetsu acts all coy about the tome, and then we battle them for more information.
I guess her team is themed?
Wouldn't it have made more sense for her to have a Mugetsu there over Mima? I don't remember Mima being relevant to LLS. It's probably because she's completely helpless in actual battles and Mima is ~mOrE cHaLlEnGiNg~ or whatever I don't care.
what does this even mean
Our tome is in another castle, then we wake up. To advance the plot we have to go to sleep again, instead of just dropping by the next area we go to. Pardon me for not being very excited.
Well, that's blunt. I wish Ai could make up his mind on when character names were displayed.
The ICBM is banded and only knows Explosion. It only really works once, but after that everybody knows and it's a waste. Also she had two Kurumis but whatever.
The wilds are still threatening.
Youmu is now Elly and I'm pretty sure there was a screen fade here too.
Normal - Inner Focus - 150HP, 200ATK, 180DEF, 130SATK, 150SDEF, 180SPD
Zero Elly is arbitrary and mediocre. Why does she get a Zero form when she doesn't have a Last Word form? It's not because she's a WL starter, since Luize and Kurumi don't get official Z/L forms. Why is she Normal typed? EX Elly at least boasted a mean STAB Cross Chop with Suction Cups, but here it's just yet another thing with high attacking stats and bulk.
It's bad when you say something with 990 BST is mediocre.
Walking past Elly places you on another map that should have been its own room instead of having the outdoor area visible as well.
Also, it's a warp tile maze with vaguely themed trainers and spawns.
This game has a plot, guys!
Grass - Flash Fire - 135HP, 130AT, 130DEF, 245SATK, 170SDEF, 180SPEED
Yes, she's a Grass type with Flash Fire. Yes, she can use Flamethrower and Fire Blast.
Instead of doing something brutal with the moveset, the AI just mindlessly spams Spark instead and neuters itself because it was presented an Overheat move. She can apparently TM Heart Break, why not just give her Leaf Blade/Flamethrower/Psychic/Heart Break so she doesn't absorb her offensive stats? It would make her Salac an actual threat.
Is this an interesting team yet?
Wait.. isn't this just a recolored Magma Emblem?
Something I forgot to do sooner was go proc the Fairy War arc for another tome.
I don't think Cirno formally introduced herself in the time we were explaining the plot to her.
We're told to go reinact Great Fairy Wars because that game was recently released around the time AW was and we have to include it!
oh no it is the dreaded lily white gang
We can't have a plot sequence without a fadescreen.
I really don't know what to say because nothing about this is interesting. I don't feel like posting their team, it's just 60~65 fairies without a Cirno.
There were people listed in the credits as proofreader/translation checker. I'm not going to post their actual names out of respect, but they did not do their job well at all. Perhaps he should have worked with a few native speakers instead of just his friends on a forum.
I hope you're not tired of these screen fades yet.
STOP DOING THIS RIGHT THIS INSTANT
This is kind of pointless.
Something's not right here.
It's a double battle, so it normally presents a reasonable challenge by forcing you into Set mode. I say normally since I just spammed Blizzard.
Did we really need this scene? Did we really need even a tenth of the screen fades presented? We were told to go to Youkai Mountain so we can have a terrible Sanae sequence, and this is on the way to Youkai Mountain. We don't need to be reminded about the plot every ten minutes of game time, it just leaves us saying "yes yes I GET IT ALREADY" in between sighs.
It's a waterfall. Specifically, it's roughly 22 seconds of waterfall. I kind of get why this scene is here considering MOF Stage 4 was a beautifully designed stage where the player is flying up a huge waterfall and avoiding torrents of bullets, but you cannot capture something like that with.. this. Just give us a five second waterfall or something and be done with it.
The reason that break is in between the waterfalls is so that you can drop by Nitori's pad and get in a fight with Momiji. I'm tired of posting entire teams, let's just go to the interesting things.
These are the only relatively interesting things considering the rest of her team is an EX Hatate and two goddamned EX Momijis. What's variety?
This sequence didn't need a fade screen since all that your character is implied to say is that they appreciated the VS Seeker, and its around this point that i am getting sick and goddamned TIRED of ALL OF THESE FADE SCREENS DO YOU NOT KNOW HOW TO IMPLY CHARACTERS ARE INTERACTING WITH ONE ANOTHER AT ALL
Nitori sells every non-plot non-orb item in the game, so I guess I can deal with terrible design to exploit other bits of terrible design.
Speaking of terrible design, these two fairies are unavoidable and battled back to back. Additionally, their flags get reset when you leave the map, so you have to battle them every time you go through this area.
They also have last words and full restores because they're nameless fairies and this makes sense. Weren't Kanako and Suwako supposed to be legendaries? I find myself saying this a lot.
Please, do more scenes like this. They don't take 10 seconds to go through, and you do these stupid ... ... ... boxes all the time anyway. Aya then battles us and she has LAya/LMomiji/LNitori again because variety.
Water - Volt Absorb - 200HP, 100ATK, 200DEF, 200SATK, 140SDEF, 150SPD
She can use Water Spout and the only relevant weakness of Water doesn't exist for her. I say relevant because the only common Grass move is Giga Drain; next to nothing that learns Leaf Blade can stand up to those stats. Surprise factor: none.
The worst part about this sequence (apart from everything) is that you can't hear my exasperated sighs over standard TCP/IP.
This is seriously happening. We are going on a magical journey with Aichiya's waifu, and every second of this trip is terrible.
Every single second.
Her team is level 85 UFO characters, barring Kogasa because she's dropped in favor of two Murasas. I'm sure you're not surprised to hear that they stand no chance against the average team of LW forms.
In a change of pace from the screen fading while we're explaining the game's plot to somebody, we are treated to the screen fading while Sanae explains this arc to somebody. Yes, the fat sailor man is supposed to be Murasa.
This isn't breaking my suspension of disbelief because I've accepted the fact this sequence is terrible and there's nothing I can do about it.
How do you screw up this badly? Why does Sanae's overworld sprite have gigantic breasts by OW sprite standards? Why does it have no walk cycle? Why are we here? We weren't given any reason to want to come here other than the plot demanding it, and the plot didn't even say "HEY MAYBE THERE'S A TOME HERE!!!!!" or whatever shoehorned reason it could come up with to send us here. The closest thing there is to a reason for being here is "it happened in one of the Windows games" and that is not a very good reason to me.
There's even invisible walls here because this is Hokkai and everything is sealed away.
Sanae fades the screen to white for a change and rescues Erika.
I don't think Byakuren knows anything about Gensokyo unless Reimu sealed her away again in the past fifteen minutes.
I'll.. let this slide for now since it's in-universe.
Oh god, here it comes.
We are treated to the tutorial battle you get at the start of FRLG. I'd normally complain about this, but it allows me to pretend Soniti is a complete ass:
WELCOME TO THE PARTY MOTHERFUCKERS
The poor girl is speechless. It's like when a friend of yours tells you all about this sweet online game he's been playing lately and tries to get you into it as well, but he's too busy killing everything due to his skill at the game/high tier gear to let you actually learn anything about playing the game itself.
Master Ball count: 2. I don't know what Murasa handed Sanae, and I don't think it's actually relevant.
This is the same as saying you're not allowed to use your favorite characters anymore if they can't evolve to LW.
Yes, you battle her. No, her team isn't anything remarkable.
THIS WAS JUST SAID FIVE MINUTES AGO YOU DON'T NEED TO REPEAT THIS SO OFTEN NOT EVERY TOUHOU FAN IS A COMPLETE IDIOT
The rest of her team is irrelevant.
Dark - Kappa Shell - 140HP, 110ATK, 150DEF, 240SATK, 150SDEF, 200SPEED
It's a Dark type with high bulk/SATK that spams a STAB Dark Ancientpower. What more do I need to say other than the fact she can learn Destroy?
At last, this stupid plot is done
there will be no more screen fades that I can think of
and Master Balls are now completely meaningless.
It's a terrible boss rush of level 100 Last Words, Zeros, Destroy, and shoehorned plot.
